A NOTE FROM THE OWNERS:
We are the owners of A Scandinavian Retreat. We want to thank all of our renters from the 2022 season. We hope you enjoyed your time at our property and made a lot of forever memories while you were there. Our family also makes it to DCL several times during the year to enjoy life at the lake. We love our property and are always thankful when the visitors (both people and animals) who enjoy it are careful and respectful. Sharing a property is always easier when visitors treat a property the same as they would if it were their own. DESCRIPTION:
A Scandinavian Retreat is a fabulous chalet set upon a wooded lot on the banks of the quiet Carmel Cove. This dog-friendly home offers beautiful cathedral ceilings and large decks, paired with the stunning stone fireplace and airy loft that are reminiscent of the Swiss style. And the lavish delights of this lake chalet go far beyond the architecture! The comfort of the wooded setting encourages you to linger on the deck to take in the sounds of nature, fresh mountain air and the stunning colors of the changing seasons. The large lot is great for kids and dog to enjoy and expend some extra energy. The warmth of this beautiful chalet offers a quiet relaxing retreat while still keeping you close to area activities and family favorite destinations. The local movie theater, Deep Creek Lake State Park, and a plethora of local favorite restaurants are all just short drives from the home. At the end of the day be sure to enjoy a dip in the bubbles of the hot tub or cozy up in front of the fire pit telling stories. In the winter, being curled up with a good book in front of the fireplace as the snow falls outside couldn't be a more picturesque way to spend the day! A Scandinavian Retreat is a vacation destination that will keep you coming back again and again (no matter the season)!

This house is perfect for large families or gatherings of extended family. Our group had 5 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of space/privacy as well as space for everyone to sit together and visit/chat. The public dock is close by for swimming/boating. Outdoor entertainment for the children/adults was not far. One child enjoyed the rope course while the whole group enjoyed a walk in Deep Creek State Park. We recommend this house to others to enjoy.

This location is perfect if you're interested in a quiet week at the lake. The cove was perfect for kayaking and swimming and the community dock was a hit with the kids. We had a wonderful week!

Everything about the house was as advertised. Community docks were close too. We had one little complaint about poison ivy covering the path to the lake but other than that the place was perfect

This house easily accommodated our large group. It was well-equipped, well-maintained and comfortable. We had no complaints. The location is great, too. It’s close to the State Park and beach, horse-back riding, activities at Wisp, stores and restaurants. The cove is quiet and pretty.

A Scandinavian Retreat was exactly like the photos . Awesome house. Quiet and had everything we needed .Kids loved the firepit, the hot tub, the ping pong table, we grilled, cooked and was a short stroll to the lake. Would definitely give it 5 stars. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The location for this place is great - at the end of a quiet road, with lakefront access. The house was very clean and tidy, and fitted our group of 4 adults and 2 dogs well. Loved the hot tub, and so grateful to the owner for allowing pets! Especially loved the addition of a gate on the dock upstairs to keep the dogs in while we relaxed outside. The rockers on the deck were lovely and comfy. One update that would be helpful are new couches - we found the couches in the main living space to be very deep and uncomfortable, and they were difficult for a few members of our party to get up and down from. We would definitely stay again if those were updated, as it's a lovely property overall.

We loved the privacy of this house. It was very cozy in the evenings. The lake access was great but very rocky and slippery. Once you get past the rocks, the water was perfect. The grill was questionable. It clearly hasn’t been cleaned for a while. If you like softer pillows then bring your own. The pillows are very very firm. Otherwise this was a great place to stay. Very convenient to get to the state park and shops.

Furnishings and kitchen need a lot of upgrades but the deck and location and privacy are all terrific. Know your priorities but the lake and the cove never disappoint!

First stayed at Scandinavian Retreat in 2003, and then many times after that. Another enjoyable visit to the Carmel Cove area. One suggestion: Owners should provide an instruction sheet for the TV in the main-floor living room (LIVING ROOM TV INSTRUCTION: Use Samsung remote to turn on Samsung TV. Use Comcast remote for channel selection. Use number pad to enter a station (0-2), then Channel Up arrow to determine all available stations and their access numbers. Use Mute button on Samsung remote for volume control or volume on/off.) We finally called your IT office on Day Two, and they provided guidance that we noted above.

Pet friendly but needs small improvements

We loved being able to bring our dog. We enjoyed the hot tub and the easily accessible path along the lake. However, there is too much furniture in the house. Several of the seats at the table are blocked by a desk and the upstairs bedroom had a Christmas tree (in May), a massive chair, and a rollaway bed leaving almost no floor space. There were only two of us and it felt crowded.

Great getaway for a small gathering

We had a great time at this property. The house was a great size for 5 people, and we didn't even use the 4th bedroom. The lake is a few dozen feet away from the back door and the community dock is only a couple houses down. The location puts you extremely close to DCL State Park. The internet was solid for us, even when popping on a work Zoom call and streaming at the same time. Comfortable bed in the upstairs master, which is a nice change from many rentals and hotels. It isn't a fancy house, but it is just a nice place to relax and base from.

The property management was fantastic. Responded very quickly to the dishwasher issue and went beyond necessary when the WiFi quit working. Losing the WiFi wasn’t that big of deal but the response was!

We had a great time at the beautifully wooded Scandinavian Retreat! It's a beautiful & well cared for home. We mainly go to Deep Creek to spend some much needed time with family, and to give our husbands some time to fish. This house worked out perfectly for that. The only downfall, which we knew when we selected the house, was that we wouldn't be able to rent a pontoon boat and dock it near the house. It's too shallow, and there's also a really low bridge that goes over the inlet that leads to the house. My brother-in-law brought his small fishing boat and said that they even had to duck below the bridge on his boat. Other than that, we feel that the place was perfect for us. We spent the rainy days at the house playing games or relaxing in the hot tub (since it's undercover). It was a very nice, relaxing time for the whole family.

We had four teenagers and two younger children; all of whom (along with some of the adults) enjoyed the hot tub and pool table, the younger two were also enthusiastic fishermen. We roasted marshmallows at the fire pit for s'mores, took advantage of the lake for swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking, and found a pleasant route for walking to the Discovery Center in the State Park. We had some issues with wi-fi and internet--Railey response was excellent. We did miss having our own dock, and would have preferred a better view of the lake and easier access. All in all, though, we had a very good week.

We enjoyed our vacation stay at Scandinavian Retreat. The home was very clean. We liked the lake view. We enjoyed the public dock which was quick and easy to walk to and because of the dates we stayed, it was not busy. We set up our flotilla of floating flamingos, rafts, and a unicorn and lazed on the lake. The grandkids and grand dogs loved it. All enjoyed the swimming in the beautiful clean fresh water lake. We fished, caught some fish, and threw them back. I enjoyed walking down to the home’s private view of the lake. I drank my morning tea at the lakeside table and chairs that are set up there. We all enjoyed roasting marshmallows around the fire pit. And grilling one night on the large deck overlooking the lake. The kids and grandkids enjoyed playing pool on the pool table. And one couple enjoyed the hot tub. We went to Wisp for the mountain coaster. And to Funland for miniature golf and go-karts. The dogs loved the outdoors and we are thankful to the home owners for allowing them. We were respectful of the property so dogs will continue to be welcome. The home is towards the end of the street so it was quiet. Everyday, the kids and grandkids said it is a great place and a great vacation. We were there basically Thursday - Saturday with great weather. We had plenty to do at the home and the attractions in the Deep Creek area.

We had 7 adults, couples and singles, and there was plenty of private space for everyone to not have to feel like we were "bunking over." The gas fireplace was lovely, and there was plenty of couch and table seating for both relaxing and meals. Having bath towels and linens provided was a nice touch. Water pressure and hot water availability was never an issue. The kitchen was well-appointed, had plenty of everything, and was comfortable for some family-style cooking in. We did not use the TVs, but even with everyone on the internet, occasionally working, we did not notice any lag. The home was very clean, uncluttered, but comfortable and homey. No access issues whatsoever: the drive was steep but plowed, deck was shoveled, and steps were clear (save for the weather that happened during our stay). The dog was very welcome, and we made sure to treat the home with respect - hopefully more pups can make the trip. Office staff was welcoming and had treats for him when I popped in for check-in and check-out. We could have used more ice-melt, and the trash bins were full from previous tenants or neighbors, but it was nothing we needed to call for. I reported it upon check-out and the staff was already heading to address it. We adored the setting and having the luxury of being able to walk to the lake on the property was a treat. Thank you for a super stay - we will book again!

Great place, minor complaints

This was such a great place with a perfect atmosphere. Loved the "tucked away" location which made for a beautiful, cozy view with the 8" of snow that day! Unfortunately neither the dishwasher or toaster worked for us, but my main complaint is that with all of the snow, the steep driveway was not salted and the top deck was left un-shoveled. I thought that would have been taken care of for arriving guests since its a main feature of the house. Luckily we brought a shovel and cleared the snow from the deck ourselves. Nonetheless, we had a great time and would definitely rent again!

Loved the house it was the perfect place and very close to wisp. I would definitely stay again as I had zero issues when I was there. Even the neighbor was helpful when we got stuck on the driveway getting out due to snow.
